Gibson A. Danes, born in 1910, received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Art Institute of Chicago in 1936, and earned a Bachelor of Science (1937) and a Master's degree (1938) from Northwestern University. He received a Ph.D. from Yale University in 1949. Danes began teaching art history at Yale in 1947.
